Danone Poland – Bieruń Plant: Smart technologies for efficient and sustainable production
The Danone plant in Bieruń, part of the global Danone Group, has implemented an advanced production monitoring system that supports the implementation of its sustainable development strategy. Thanks to its collaboration with ConnectPoint, the plant has established a central data repository based on the Aveva PI system and the Smart RDM platform, which expands the capabilities for managing operational processes. This solution has enabled the digitisation of processes, increased operational efficiency and reduced energy losses.
The Challenge
The Bieruń plant faced the challenge of aligning its production processes with the Danone Group’s ambitious CUTE sustainability strategy.
The key challenges were:
- the lack of a centralised performance monitoring system,
- manual recording of machine operating parameters by operators,
- data scattered across multiple spreadsheets and systems,
- limited ability to monitor processes in real time,
- and a lack of analytical tools to support production optimisation.
The factory’s objective was to create a system that would provide full process visibility, automated reporting and real-time quality control.
Solution
To address these challenges, Danone partnered with ConnectPoint to implement a state-of-the-art technological solution based on two pillars:
(1) Aveva PI System – Central Data Repository (CDR):
- collection and integration of process data from all production lines in real time,
- creation of a factory resource model (AF Data Model) to provide data context,
- configuration of algorithms to automatically calculate performance indicators (OEE, TDT),
- implementation of Power BI reports and visualisation of historical and current data.
(2) Smart RDM Platform – intelligent data management:
- centralised storage of production data and automatic distribution of reports,
- dedicated views for operators and managers, advanced management of production events,
- manual data entry via forms integrated with Aveva PI,
- integration with Power BI for advanced analytics and reporting.
The implementation integrated the Aveva PI, Smart RDM and Power BI systems, creating a modern environment for process analysis and real-time performance management.
