Twinings – Real-Time Production Monitoring
Twinings, one of the oldest and most recognisable premium tea brands in the world (founded in 1706), operates production facilities in the UK, China and Poland. The Polish factory in Swarzędz, which has been in operation since 2011, produces around 300 types of tea. To increase operational efficiency and better control manufacturing processes, Twinings has implemented a solution with ConnectPoint based on a Central Data Repository, which enables full real-time production monitoring.
The Challenge
Twinings faced challenges typical of modern manufacturing facilities:
- the lack of an integrated system linking machine data with business systems (e.g. SAP),
- limited visibility of processes and an inability to analyse correlations between operational data and orders,
- the need to improve machine utilisation (OEE) and reduce production losses,
- the need to shorten order lead times and manage production cycles flexibly.
Solution
ConnectPoint developed a Central Data Repository (CDR) for Twinings based on the Aveva PI System (formerly Osisoft PI), which integrates data from multiple sources:
- production lines,
- SCADA systems,
- SAP,
- SharePoint,
- building management system (BMS),
- external Excel files.
Thanks to IT/OT integration, the company has gained:
- advanced real-time analytics,
- the ability to calculate OEE performance indicators in various contexts,
- full visibility of production processes,
- analysis of correlations between operational and business data.
The system brings together data from across the entire plant in one place, enabling rapid reporting and decision-making based on real-time data.
