PGE GiEK – Production Monitoring and Reporting System

PGE Górnictwo i Energetyka Konwencjonalna S.A. (PGE GiEK) is one of the key companies within the PGE Capital Group – the largest enterprise in the electricity sector in Poland. The company is responsible for lignite mining and electricity generation across eight branches throughout the country. To improve operational efficiency, reduce reporting times and ensure consistent access to production data, PGE GiEK, in collaboration with ConnectPoint, has implemented a Production Monitoring System (PMS) based on the Aveva PI System (formerly Osisoft PI) and Smart RDM.

The Challenge

PGE GiEK faced a number of challenges typical of large, multi-branch organisations:

  • the fragmentation of production and environmental data across local systems,
  • the lengthy time required to consolidate information and prepare reports for management,
  • the lack of a consistent source of operational data,
  • the complexity of mandatory reporting to government entities,
  • increasing regulatory requirements regarding environmental protection and emissions,
  • the need for real-time access to information for central management.

The aim of the project was to create an integrated production monitoring and reporting system that would cover all branches (power plants and mines) and enable the automation of reporting and analysis.

Case Study

Solution

ConnectPoint has implemented and maintains a centralised Production Monitoring System (PMS) for seven branches of PGE GiEK.

  • The system is based on the Aveva PI System (formerly Osisoft PI) (250,000 measurement points, real-time data) and Smart RDM (report management and distribution).
  • Key scope: data consolidation, central repository, two AF databases, 270 PI Vision screens, reporting automation.
  • Smart RDM supports daily, monthly, annual, KPI, environmental, emergency and mandatory reports.
  • The system enables data corrections, validation and full control of the report approval process.
